Why your cup of coffee costs a little more - And why that’s actually normal

Why your cup of coffee costs a little more - And why that’s actually normal

Coffee is craftsmanship. At least, good coffee is.

For a single cup of specialty coffee, more than 30 pairs of hands are involved — from the plant to picking, sorting, roasting, and brewing. It’s a craft, a matter of precision, and ultimately human work.

The value of coffee has long been underestimated. Especially for the people at the beginning of the chain, making a living often remains a challenge. At the same time, costs are rising throughout the entire supply chain. Not just for the coffee itself, but also for packaging materials, energy, and transport. We feel it — and by now, you may too.

What We Aim to Do

At Bocca, we don’t simply pass on those costs. We carefully review every step to see where we can limit price increases, for example:

  • We consolidate shipments to make transport more efficient
  • We look for sustainable yet affordable packaging solutions
  • We invest in energy-efficient roasting processes

However, some costs have changed structurally. And that requires a shift in perspective: not focusing on what something costs, but on what it’s worth.

Because in the end, it’s only a few extra cents per cup — for coffee that dozens of people have worked on. Coffee filled with care, time, and craftsmanship.

A liter of the world’s very best coffee is still cheaper than a liter of gasoline — or sometimes even a liter of mass-produced soda. And that puts things into perspective.

Good coffee deserves a fair price. Not as an exception, but as the new norm.
