Coffee is craftsmanship. At least, good coffee is.
For a single cup of specialty coffee, more than 30 pairs of hands are involved – from the plant to picking, sorting, roasting and finally brewing. It’s a craft, a matter of precision and, above all, human work.
The value of coffee has long been underestimated. Especially for the people at the beginning of the chain, making a decent living is often still a challenge. At the same time, costs are rising throughout the entire supply chain – not only for the coffee itself, but also for packaging, energy and transport. We feel it, and by now you probably do too.
What We Aim to Do
At BOCCA, we don’t simply pass those costs straight on. We look carefully at every step in the chain to see where we can limit price increases. For example:
-
We consolidate shipments to make transport more efficient
-
We look for sustainable yet affordable packaging solutions
-
We invest in energy-efficient roasting processes
Even so, some costs have changed structurally. That calls for a shift in perspective: less focus on what something costs, and more on what it’s worth.
In the end, it comes down to just a few extra cents per cup – for coffee that dozens of people have worked on. Coffee filled with care, time and craftsmanship.
A litre of the world’s very best coffee is still cheaper than a litre of gasoline, and sometimes even cheaper than a litre of mass-produced soda. That puts things in perspective.
Good coffee deserves a fair price. Not as an exception, but as the new norm.
