Many people believe coffee isn’t healthy, but research from Wageningen University has now proven otherwise. Their study shows that drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day can benefit the heart, liver, and brain:
-
30% lower risk of premature death from heart disease
-
Up to 40% lower risk of liver disease
-
45% reduced chance of developing liver cancer
-
Possibly a lower risk of colon and uterine cancer as well
So why is coffee good for you?
Coffee contains hundreds of natural compounds, each with its own effect on the body. The most well-known is caffeine, which stimulates the nervous system and helps you stay alert and focused.
In the experiment, participants who drank regular coffee were significantly more physically active than those who unknowingly drank decaf. When the groups switched, the pattern repeated. A more active lifestyle likely contributed to the health benefits observed.
Another important compound in coffee is chlorogenic acid, which may help prevent fat buildup in the liver, a major factor in reducing the risk of liver disease and liver cancer.
At Bocca, we believe in drinking a few cups of good coffee a day. It’s reassuring to know those few cups can be good for you too.
